Shred-it, the world’s leading document destruction company and PostNet are helping consumers fight identity theft by organizing a National Community Shred campaign in support of Fraud Prevention Month.

Community Shred events will be held at locations across Canada on
Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Shred-it will bring their information security expertise to PostNet locations to raise awareness and help community members take action against identity theft and fraud. Shred-it mobile shredding trucks will be on site and consumers are invited to bring all the documents they can carry for shredding.

The best safeguard against personal identity theft is to regularly destroy confidential personal and business documents. This national Community Shred event will help consumers to take the necessary steps to protect themselves by destroying documents that are no longer needed.

Fraud Prevention Month is organized by The Fraud Prevention Forum, a concerned group of private sector firms, consumer and volunteer groups, government agencies and law enforcement organizations, who are committed to fighting fraud aimed at consumers and businesses. Through its partners, the Forum, which is chaired by the Competition Bureau, works to prevent Canadians from becoming victims of fraud by educating them on how to "Recognize it. Report it. Stop it."
